A real treat for twitchers or just plain nature lovers, the towering chalk cliffs at Bempton are home to over 200,000 seabirds.
For adults and kids alike – Bempton Cliffs is the best place in England to see, hear and smell seabirds! Best visited between April and September – the cliffs come to life as hundreds of thousands of seabirds congregate at the cliffs to give birth. Bring a pair of binoculars or borrow some from us and watch as adult birds bring food to their nests or young chicks take their first faltering flights.
We can take a walk around the nature reserve with an RSPB ranger and learn about the difference between gannets, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and fulmars. There are 5 specially created cliff top view points to make sure you get really up close and personal with the birds!
Between April and July, thousands of easily recognizable puffins join the party to add flair with their colourful beaks.
There are two nature trails, which we will follow over the course of the day, with opportunities to feed the birds as well as a Visitor Centre where you can view close up CCTV footage from cameras on the cliffs. There are plenty of other cliff top walks for people wanting to further blow away the cobwebs.
When you have seen everything at Bempton – we can drive around to Flamborough Head, see the lighthouse and fantastic arches and stacks carved from the chalk cliffs. Depending on the time there will hopefully be time for a walk on the beach to dip our toes in the North Sea.
Then we will take a short drive to the popular seaside resort of Bridlington where we can take a stroll down the seafront and sample the fresh fish & chips or take afternoon tea!
