Come and explore Bridlington and explore the location of the recent popular Dad’s Army film.
As part of a driver guided day to the East Coast, we will be heading to the seaside town of Bridlington to meet David Hinde, a celebrity Town Crier who also became an unexpected star in the film as the Walmington-on-Sea Town Crier (leading a famous St George's Day Parade in the movie). As the Town Crier for Bridlington, David holds the world record for the loudest town cry and we’ll get chance to test this!
David will use his expert knowledge of the town and surrounding area, where he combine this with insider knowledge as to the actual production of the movie and its locations.
During filming Bridlington Old Town’s High Street was transformed into wartime Britain with A list British cast members Bill Nighy (Sgt. Wilson), Toby Jones (Captain Mainwaring), Sir Tom Courtney (Corporal Jones) and Sir Michael Gambon (Godfrey) working in the town. Also Hollywood’s own Catherine Zeta Jones added some glamour to the proceedings playing a wartime journalist.
Bridlington Old Town became Walmington - on - Sea during production, home to the Home Guard patrol lead by the officious Captain Mainwaring.
As well as exploring the glorious film location of Bridlington Old Town we will also have time for traditional fish and chips or lunchtime refreshments in one of the local hostelries.
After lunch we will explore some of the other heritage coast locations used in the film, such as Bempton Cliffs doubling up as Dover and the magnificent setting of Flamborough, visiting the North landing and stopping off at the Lighthouse.
This is a great day out for a Dad’s Army lover, movie buff or just someone who wants to acquaint themselves with Bridlington and the heritage coast.
